The MLS Innovator Network convened this month for a special session focused on a potential game-changer: the Broker Public Portal (BPP). This wasn't just a regular pitch; it was a deep dive into a solution designed to enhance the consumer search experience and empower brokers and MLSs.

On February 5, 2024, the Network witnessed an extended demo from Broker Public Portal. 

The Vision

CEO Dan Troup presented a compelling vision: a national consumer home search experience fueled by real-time MLS data and guided by Fair Display Guidelines with the promise to give MLSs and brokers access to search capabilities that rival those of the major portals.

A Real Look at BPP's Search Powerhouse

The focus of Troup’s product demo wasn't on flashy graphics or AI-powered features, but on something far more crucial: speed. In the world of online search, milliseconds matter. BPP's lightning-fast autocomplete and near-instantaneous search results showcased a platform built for the consumer of today.'

 

But speed is just the beginning. BPP's "smart search" functionality allows users to describe their dream home in plain English (or even other languages), and the system intelligently translates those desires into precise search queries.

 

Imagine telling your search bar, "I need a house that can fit a family of four, with at least three bathrooms and a one-acre lot," and actually getting relevant results. This is exactly what BPP’s smart search does. The demo also highlighted BPP's unique approach to filter management. BPP displays filters prominently, showing users the impact each filter has on their search results. This transparency helps consumers refine their searches, with the goal of eliminating the frustration of lost or forgotten criteria.

Reclaiming the Consumer

BPP’s mission isn't just about building a better search engine; it's about building a better ecosystem. Troup emphasized the collaborative nature of the project, highlighting their commitment to empowering both MLSs and brokers.
